First Steps
  1. Restart Corixa - Quit and reopen the app
  2. Check for Updates - Ensure you have the latest version
  3. Restart your Mac - Resolves many system-level issues
  4. Check internet connection - Required for sync and AI features

Installation Issues

Can't Find Corixa in the App Store

Solution:

  • Make sure you're searching in the Mac App Store, not the iOS App Store
  • Check that your Mac meets the minimum requirements (macOS 14.0 Sonoma or later)
  • Try searching for "Corixa" or "Corixa content manager"
  • Visit the Corixa product page for a direct link

App Won't Launch

Possible causes and solutions:

  • macOS version too old - Corixa requires macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later
  • Corrupted installation - Delete the app from Applications and reinstall from the Mac App Store
  • System permissions - Check System Settings > Privacy & Security for any blocked items

Installation Stuck or Failed

Solution:

  • Check your internet connection
  • Sign out and back into the App Store (App Store > Store > Sign Out)
  • Restart your Mac and try again
  • Check available disk space

Browser Extension Issues

Safari Extension Not Appearing

Solution:

  1. Open Safari > Settings > Extensions
  2. Look for "Corixa" in the list
  3. Check the box to enable it
  4. If not listed, try restarting Safari
  5. If still not appearing, reinstall Corixa

Safari Extension Shows Error

Solution:

  • Ensure Corixa app is running (check menu bar)
  • Disable and re-enable the extension in Safari settings
  • Clear Safari cache: Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data > Remove All

Chrome Extension Not Connecting

Solution:

  1. Make sure Corixa is running
  2. Check that the Chrome extension is installed from the Chrome Web Store
  3. Try removing and reinstalling the extension
  4. Restart Chrome after installing

Extension Saves Don't Appear in Corixa

Solution:

  • Check if Corixa is running in the menu bar
  • Try the "All Items" category - the item might be there
  • Check the "Uncategorized" category
  • Restart both the browser and Corixa

YouTube Issues

Can't Connect YouTube Account

Solution:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Try using a different browser for the Google sign-in
  3. Disable browser extensions that might block the sign-in popup
  4. Clear browser cookies for accounts.google.com
  5. Try in an incognito/private window

YouTube Sync Stuck or Very Slow

Solution:

  • Large playlists with hundreds of videos take time - be patient
  • Check your internet connection speed
  • Try syncing fewer playlists at once
  • Cancel and restart the sync

Some Playlists Don't Appear

Possible reasons:

  • Only your own playlists and saved playlists appear
  • Shared playlist links must be saved to your YouTube account first
  • Private playlists from other accounts won't appear

YouTube Authentication Expired

Solution:

  1. Go to Settings > YouTube
  2. Click Disconnect
  3. Click Connect YouTube Account again
  4. Complete the authentication process

Missing Videos After Sync

Possible reasons:

  • Private videos aren't accessible
  • Age-restricted videos may be filtered
  • Videos removed from YouTube won't sync
  • Geographic restrictions may apply

AI Features Issues

Summary Generation Fails

Possible causes:

  • Network issue - Check your internet connection
  • Content too short - Very brief content may not summarize
  • Service temporarily unavailable - Try again in a few moments

No Transcript Available for YouTube

Explanation:

Not all YouTube videos have transcripts. Videos without captions or with disabled captions cannot be summarized using transcript analysis. Corixa will try to summarize based on title and description instead.

Summaries Taking Too Long

Solution:

  • Long content takes longer to process
  • Check your internet connection speed
  • Try a shorter "Summary Length" setting
  • AI services may experience high load at peak times

Backup & Restore Issues

Backup Fails to Create

Solution:

  • Check available disk space
  • Verify write permissions to the destination folder
  • Try saving to a different location (Desktop or Documents)
  • Close other apps that might be accessing Corixa's data

Restore Fails

Solution:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of Corixa
  • Try a different backup file if available
  • The backup file may be corrupted - check if it was fully downloaded
  • Quit all apps and restart your Mac, then try again

Missing Data After Restore

Explanation:

  • Items added after the backup date won't be present
  • YouTube authentication isn't included in backups (for security)
  • Verify you selected the correct backup file

Performance Issues

Corixa Running Slowly

Solutions:

  • Large library - Performance may decrease with thousands of items
  • Clear thumbnail cache - Settings > Storage > Clear Cache
  • Reduce thumbnail size - Settings > Appearance > Thumbnail Size
  • Close other apps - Free up system memory
  • Restart Corixa - Clears temporary data

High Memory Usage

Solutions:

  • Large libraries with many thumbnails use more memory
  • Reduce thumbnail size in Settings
  • Consider using compact list view
  • Restart the app to clear memory

Search is Slow

Solutions:

  • Very large libraries may have slower search
  • Be more specific with search terms
  • Use category filtering to narrow results

Data Issues

Duplicate Items Appearing

Solution:

  • Corixa has duplicate detection, but edge cases can occur
  • Select duplicates and delete them manually
  • Use search to find all copies of an item

Thumbnails Not Loading

Solutions:

  • Check internet connection (thumbnails are fetched from web)
  • Some websites block thumbnail fetching
  • Clear thumbnail cache and let Corixa re-fetch
  • The source page may no longer exist

Categories Not Syncing to Extensions

Solution:

  1. Ensure Corixa is running
  2. Reload the extension (disable/enable)
  3. Restart the browser
  4. Check that extensions are properly configured

Menu Bar Issues

Menu Bar Icon Not Appearing

Solutions:

  1. Check Settings > General > "Show in Menu Bar" is enabled
  2. Your menu bar might be full - try removing other icons
  3. Restart Corixa

Drawer Not Opening

Solutions:

  • Click directly on the menu bar icon
  • Try the keyboard shortcut Cmd + Shift + Space
  • Another window may be blocking - move windows aside
  • Restart Corixa

Reset & Recovery

Reset Preferences Only

To reset app preferences without losing your data:

  1. Quit Corixa
  2. Open Terminal
  3. Run: defaults delete io.halldor.Corixa
  4. Restart Corixa

Complete Reset (Fresh Start)

Warning
This will delete all your saved content. Create a backup first if you want to preserve your data.
  1. Create a backup (if desired)
  2. Quit Corixa
  3. Delete the app container: ~/Library/Containers/io.halldor.Corixa
  4. Reset preferences: defaults delete io.halldor.Corixa
  5. Restart Corixa
