Categories

Organize your saved content into custom categories with icons, colors, and smart organization features.

Understanding Categories

Categories are the primary way to organize content in Corixa. Each category can have:

  • Custom Name - Descriptive name for the category
  • Icon - Visual identifier from SF Symbols
  • Color - Distinguishing color for the icon
  • Item Count - Number of items in the category

Built-in Categories

Corixa includes several built-in categories that cannot be deleted:

Category Description
All Items Shows all saved content across all categories
Uncategorized Items that haven't been assigned to a category
High Priority Items marked as high priority for quick access
Quick Access
The "High Priority" smart category automatically shows all items you've marked as important, regardless of their assigned category.

Creating Categories

Create custom categories to organize your content by topic, project, or any system that works for you.

Open Category Management

Click the gear icon at the bottom of the sidebar, or go to Corixa > Settings > Categories.

Add New Category

Click the + button to create a new category. A new row will appear in the list.

Enter Category Name

Type a descriptive name for your category. Names should be unique and meaningful.

Choose an Icon

Click the icon button to open the icon picker. Search or browse through hundreds of SF Symbols to find the perfect icon.

Select a Color

Click the color circle to choose a color for your category icon. Colors help visually distinguish categories at a glance.

🎨 Color Tips
Use distinct colors for frequently used categories. Consider grouping related categories with similar hues (e.g., all work categories in blues, personal in greens).

  2. Click on the category you want to edit

Best Practices

Organizational Strategies

  • By Topic - Create categories for different subjects (e.g., "Machine Learning", "Web Development", "Design")
  • By Project - Organize content by project or client (e.g., "Project Alpha", "Client XYZ")
  • By Status - Track content through a workflow (e.g., "To Read", "In Progress", "Completed")
  • By Source - Group by where content came from (e.g., "YouTube", "Articles", "Documentation")

Keeping Categories Manageable

  • Aim for 5-15 categories for easy navigation
  • Use descriptive but concise names
  • Merge similar categories periodically
  • Archive or delete unused categories
  • Use the "Uncategorized" view to find items that need organizing
Pro Tip
If you enable YouTube integration, Corixa can automatically create categories for your YouTube playlists and sync videos into them. See YouTube Integration for details.
