Troubleshooting

Automation Permission Denied

If TabSight cannot read your browser tabs:

  1. Open System SettingsPrivacy & SecurityAutomation
  2. Find TabSight in the list
  3. Enable the browser toggles (Safari, Chrome)
  4. Restart TabSight

If TabSight does not appear in the list:

  • Delete TabSight from Applications
  • Re-download and install
  • Launch again — the permission dialog should reappear
Important Without Automation permission, TabSight cannot function. This is a macOS security requirement for any app that communicates with other apps via AppleScript.

Status Bar Icon Invisible (macOS Tahoe)

On macOS 26 (Tahoe), some menu bar icons may be invisible due to a known system bug affecting many apps.

Workaround:

  • The floating dock panel works independently of the status bar icon
  • Click or hover on the dock strip at the screen edge to expand
  • You do not need the status bar icon for normal use

Tabs Not Updating

If the tab list appears stale:

  1. Make sure your browser is running (Safari or Chrome)
  2. Click the Refresh button in the dock header
  3. Check that Automation permission is still granted (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation)
  4. The dock auto-refreshes while expanded, but only polls when visible

Dock Not Appearing

If you cannot see the dock:

  1. Check if it is on the opposite screen edge (try both sides)
  2. Try clicking the menu bar icon (if visible)
  3. Check if another app's window is covering the dock strip
  4. Reset: Quit TabSight, delete preferences (defaults delete io.halldor.TabSight), relaunch

Dock Not Responding to Mouse

If the dock strip does not expand:

  • Check your interaction mode in Settings (hover vs. click)
  • Try clicking directly on the thin strip
  • Make sure TabSight is still running (check Activity Monitor)

Wrong Tab Activated

TabSight uses stable browser window IDs to avoid this, but if it happens:

  • Click Refresh in the dock to reload the tab list
  • The issue may occur if browser windows were rapidly opened/closed

App Won't Launch

  • Verify macOS 13.0+ (Ventura or later)
  • Right-click → Open (bypasses Gatekeeper on first launch for notarized apps)
  • Check Console.app for error messages
