TabSight Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 24, 2026
TabSight is designed with privacy as a core principle. The app reads your browser windows and tabs (Safari and Chrome) via AppleScript and displays them locally. No data is sent anywhere, no internet connection is required, and no information about your browsing is stored or transmitted.
Overview
TabSight ("we", "our", or "us"), developed by Halldor Gislason, is a browser tab management utility for macOS. This privacy policy explains how TabSight handles your information — which is to say, it doesn't collect any.
Our Privacy Commitment
TabSight was built for people who want fast, private access to their browser tabs. We believe your browsing activity is personal, and that belief is reflected in every technical decision:
What TabSight Does NOT Do
To be absolutely clear, TabSight does not:
- Upload your tab data — Tab information stays on your Mac
- Send any data to servers — No network calls for any feature
- Collect usage analytics — No tracking, no telemetry
- Require an account — No registration needed
- Store browsing history — Tab data is ephemeral, refreshed on demand
- Access bookmarks, passwords, or cookies — Only reads window and tab info
How TabSight Works
AppleScript Integration
TabSight queries your browsers (Safari and Chrome) via macOS AppleScript:
- It reads window IDs, tab titles, tab URLs, and the active tab index
- This data is displayed in the floating dock panel
- Tab data is held in memory only and refreshed on demand
- Nothing is persisted to disk beyond user preferences (dock position, display mode)
What TabSight Reads
- Browser window names and IDs
- Tab titles and URLs for each window
- Active tab index per window
- This is the same information visible in each browser's Window menu
What TabSight Can Do
- Switch to a specific tab (bring window forward, activate tab)
- Close a tab
- Open a new browser window
- These actions use AppleScript commands sent to each browser
User Preferences Stored Locally
- Dock edge position (left/right)
- Display mode (grouped/compact)
- Interaction mode (hover/click)
- Refresh interval
- Launch at login preference
- Stored in standard macOS UserDefaults — never transmitted
Data We Collect
None. TabSight collects no data. We have no servers receiving data, no analytics endpoints, no crash reporting services. The app is entirely self-contained.
Third-Party Services
TabSight uses minimal third-party components:
- macOS AppleScript: For browser communication (Safari, Chrome) (Apple's framework)
- Google Favicon Service: TabSight displays website favicons via
google.com/s2/favicons. This sends the domain name (not full URL) to Google's public service. No personal data or browsing context is transmitted. - Plausible Analytics (website only): This website uses Plausible for privacy-friendly analytics. The TabSight app itself contains no analytics.
Data Security
Your data security is ensured by:
- Automation permission controlled by macOS
- Tab data held in memory only, not written to disk
- No network transmission from the app
- No server-side components
Automation Permission
macOS requires explicit permission for apps to control other apps via AppleScript:
- This permission allows TabSight to query browser windows/tabs and switch tabs
- It does NOT grant access to browser passwords, browsing history, cookies, or extensions
- You can revoke permission at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation
Children's Privacy
TabSight does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children. The app does not require age verification because there is no data collection.
Your Rights
Because TabSight collects no data, privacy rights like access, deletion, and portability don't apply to us. Your browsing information remains entirely under your control.
To stop using TabSight:
- Simply delete the app from your Mac
- No data remains because none was collected
- Revoke automation permission in System Settings if desired
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy if we add features that affect privacy. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Given our commitment to local-only processing, significant privacy changes are unlikely.
