Quick Apply & Favorites
Quick Apply Overview
The Quick Apply panel at the top of the Inspector lets you rapidly apply saved dates and locations to selected photos. This is the fastest way to tag multiple photos with the same metadata.
- Date Menu: Access your saved favorite dates
- Location Menu: Access favorite locations and recent locations
- Repeat Button: Repeat your last action on new photos
Saving Favorite Dates
Save commonly used dates for quick access:
- Right-click on any photo in the grid
- Select "Add Date to Favorites"
- Enter a name for this date (e.g., "Wedding Day", "Trip Start")
- The date is now available in the Quick Apply Date menu
Applying a Favorite Date:
- Select the photos you want to update
- Click the Date dropdown in Quick Apply
- Click the favorite date to apply it instantly
Saving Favorite Locations
Save frequently used locations:
- Right-click on a photo that has a location
- Select "Add Location to Favorites"
- Enter a name (e.g., "Home", "Office", "Beach House")
- The location is saved to Quick Apply
Recent Locations:
Pixata automatically remembers locations you've recently applied. These appear in the Location dropdown under "Recent" - no need to save them manually.
Repeat Last Action (⌘Y)
After applying any date or location, you can quickly repeat it on other photos:
- Apply a date or location to some photos
- A "Repeat" button appears in Quick Apply showing your last action
- Select different photos
- Click the Repeat button or press ⌘Y
- The same value is applied to the new selection
This is perfect for workflows where you're applying the same date or location to many photos across different albums.
Managing Favorites

- Clear Location Favorites: Open the Location menu, click "Clear Favorites"
- Clear Recent Locations: Open the Location menu, click "Clear Recent"
Note: Favorites persist between app sessions. Recent locations are cleared when you quit Pixata.
Troubleshooting
Photos not appearing?
- Verify Photos library access in System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Photos
- Make sure Apple Photos app is installed and has your library
- Try quitting and reopening Pixata
- Large libraries may take time to load initially
Changes not saving?
- Ensure you clicked "Apply" after making changes
- Check that Photos app isn't open with the same photos
- Verify you have write permission to the Photos library
- Some system photos may be locked from editing
App running slowly?
- Close other heavy applications
- Work with smaller selections for batch operations
- Apple Silicon Macs perform significantly better
- Initial library scan is slow; subsequent launches are faster
