What is SafeRag SE?

SafeRag SE is a private AI chat application for macOS, available on the Mac App Store. Unlike cloud-based AI services, SafeRag SE processes all conversations locally on your Mac using built-in AI models — no external tools, no servers, no cloud connections required.

100% Private

All AI processing happens on your Mac. No data is sent to external servers.

Built-In AI

Powered by llama.cpp with no external dependencies. Download a model and start chatting.

Document Intelligence

Upload documents and chat with them using RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation).

Encrypted

AES-GCM encryption protects your conversations at rest. Only you can read your messages.

AI Providers

SafeRag SE supports three AI providers:

  • llama.cpp (Built-In) — Download and run open-source models directly. No external tools needed.
  • Apple Foundation Models — On macOS 26+, use Apple's on-device AI with no download required.
  • Ollama (Optional) — Connect to Ollama if you already have it installed for additional models.

Chat Modes

SafeRag SE offers multiple chat modes:

  • General Mode — Standard AI conversations for everyday tasks
  • RAG Mode — Chat with your uploaded documents for context-aware responses
  • Spark Mode — Creative mode with enhanced temperature for brainstorming

Document Support

Upload and chat with various document types:

  • PDF documents
  • Plain text files (.txt)
  • Markdown files (.md)

  • Prompt Templates — Save and reuse common prompts

SafeRag SE requires an Apple Silicon Mac (M1, M2, M3, or M4). Intel Macs are not supported.

Ready to begin? Follow these steps:

Download from Mac App Store

Search for "SafeRag SE" on the Mac App Store and download it to your Mac. See the Installation Guide.

Set Up Your AI

The app guides you through downloading your first AI model or setting up Apple Foundation Models. See Onboarding.
