Getting Started
1. First Launch
When you first launch Corixa:
- The app creates a local database for your content
- Default categories are automatically created
- You're ready to start saving content!
- Optionally enable browser extensions (Safari included, Chrome separate)
- Optionally connect YouTube for playlist syncing
2. Installing Browser Extensions
Safari Extension (Included):
- Open Safari → Settings → Extensions
- Enable "Corixa" extension
- Grant permissions when prompted
- Click the Corixa icon in Safari toolbar to save pages
Chrome Extension (Separate Install):
- Visit Chrome Web Store
- Click "Add to Chrome"
- Grant permissions when prompted
- The app will automatically detect and configure the extension
- Click the Corixa icon in Chrome toolbar to save pages
3. Saving Your First Content
Multiple ways to save content:
- Browser Extension: Click the extension icon on any webpage
- Manual Entry: Use File → New Item in the app
- Drag & Drop: Drag URLs directly into the app
- YouTube Sync: Connect your account to automatically sync playlists
Browser Extensions
Safari extension not appearing?
- Verify Safari 17+ is installed (Safari → About Safari)
- Check Safari → Settings → Extensions → Corixa is enabled
- Restart Safari after enabling the extension
- Ensure the app is running (extensions need app to be open)
- Try disabling and re-enabling the extension
Chrome extension not working?
- Verify extension is installed from Chrome Web Store
- Check chrome://extensions/ to ensure Corixa is enabled
- Ensure the Corixa app is running
- Check that native messaging host is installed (app does this automatically)
- Try restarting Chrome and the Corixa app
Extension saves but content doesn't appear?
- Ensure the Corixa app is running in foreground or background
- Check the app's main window - content may need a few seconds to sync
- Try refreshing the app view (⌘R)
- Check Console app for any error messages
YouTube Integration
How do I connect YouTube?
- Go to Settings → YouTube in Corixa
- Click "Connect YouTube Account"
- Sign in with your Google/YouTube account
- Grant read-only permissions
- Corixa will sync your subscriptions and playlists
What YouTube data does Corixa access?
Corixa requests read-only access to:
- Your YouTube subscriptions (channel list)
- Public and unlisted playlists you own
- Video metadata (titles, descriptions, thumbnails)
Corixa does NOT access:
- Your YouTube watch history
- Your private videos or playlists (unless you explicitly add them)
- Your YouTube recommendations or suggested videos
YouTube sync not working?
- Check that you're signed in (Settings → YouTube)
- Verify internet connection is active
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting your YouTube account
- Check YouTube API quota limits (rare, but can happen)
- Ensure OAuth tokens haven't expired (re-authenticate if needed)
AI Features
How do AI summaries work?
Corixa offers AI-powered content summaries:
- Summaries are generated on-demand when you request them
- Content is sent to AI providers (Claude or Gemini) via secure proxy
- Summaries are stored locally in your database
- You can disable AI features entirely in Settings
Are AI features free?
Currently, AI features use free-tier APIs:
- Google Gemini: Free tier with generous limits
- Anthropic Claude: Available through secure proxy
- Rate limits may apply during high usage
- Future versions may offer paid tiers for premium features
Data Management
Where is my data stored?
All Corixa data is stored locally on your Mac:
- Database:
~/Library/Application Support/io.halldor.Corixa/ - Thumbnails: Cached in the same directory
- Settings: macOS UserDefaults
- OAuth Tokens: macOS Keychain (secure)
How do I backup my content?
- Go to File → Backup Database
- Choose a location (local folder, external drive, cloud folder)
- Corixa creates a .clearday-backup file with all your content
- Set up automatic backup reminders in Settings
How do I restore from backup?
- Go to File → Restore from Backup
- Select your .clearday-backup file
- Choose restore options (replace or merge)
- Wait for import to complete
- Your content is restored!
Can I export my data?
Yes! Corixa supports multiple export formats:
- Full Export: JSON format with all metadata
- Backup Format: .clearday-backup for restore
- Selected Items: Export specific categories or items
Performance & Troubleshooting
App is running slowly
- Close and reopen the app (⌘Q then relaunch)
- Check available disk space (System Settings → Storage)
- Reduce the number of items displayed (use categories to organize)
- Clear thumbnail cache in Settings if it's grown large
- Consider archiving old content you don't need frequent access to
Thumbnails not loading?
- Check internet connection (thumbnails fetched from source websites)
- Try regenerating thumbnails (right-click item → Refresh Thumbnail)
- Some websites block thumbnail requests - this is normal
- Fallback icons will be used when thumbnails aren't available
App won't launch
- Verify macOS 14.0+ (About This Mac)
- Check Console app for error messages
- Try removing and reinstalling the app
- Check that Application Support folder isn't corrupted
- Contact support with Console logs for debugging

Is my data private?

- All content stored locally on your Mac
- Optional AI features use secure proxy (no content logging)

- Browser extensions only access pages you explicitly save

Updates & Compatibility
How do I update Corixa?
- Updates are delivered automatically (if installed via App Store)
- Or download the latest version from corixa.io
- Your database is automatically migrated to new versions
- Always backup before major version updates
